Role and key responsibilities:
The Clinical Governance & AI Lead will shape and execute ThinkMD’s clinical product and AI strategy across its frontline healthcare worker-facing and citizen-facing products. This role sits at the intersection of clinical safety, product development, and applied AI; ensuring that ThinkMD’s tools are clinically sound, validated, technically robust, and tailored for use in globally. This role will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to define the clinical and AI roadmap, guide model design and evaluation, and deliver high-quality, scalable, and safe digital health products. This role also oversees clinical research and evidence generation for all product verticals, and is the key interface between the business and the Clinical and Scientific Governance Board.
Strategic Leadership and Vision
- Develop and communicate the company's clinical vision and scientific strategy to align with business goals and ThinkMD's mission to combat global healthcare inequity.
- Collaborate with the executive team to identify and prioritise current and future adjacent clinical opportunities and develop evidence-based cases that balance clinical needs, scientific rigour, and strategic importance for ThinkMD.
- Lead clinical innovation to enhance clinical outcomes and create sustainable clinical competitive advantage.
- Monitor clinical trends and scientific developments to identify opportunities and adapt strategies accordingly.
1. Clinical development
Clinical feature development
- Help shape & execute the clinical vision and strategy for ThinkMD’s products, including frontline healthcare worker-facing and citizen-facing products.
- Collaborate with Chief Product Officer, product managers, designers, and engineers to translate clinical workflows and guidelines into usable digital products.
- Apply deep understanding of clinical end user needs, both stated and unstated, as well as medical trends, regulatory dynamics, and clinical opportunities, into product development and iteration to ensure real-world clinical relevance.
- Use clinical data insights to inform medical decisions and optimise existing clinical approaches.
- Partner with data teams to generate insights that drive both clinical improvements and external value for healthcare systems.
- Drive experimentation with all aspects of clinical development and innovation including internal and external healthcare stakeholders.
- Responsible for developing the clinical product roadmap to be incorporated in overall clinical / data products.
Clinical safety and governance
- Establish and maintain strong clinical governance, including safety case documentation, risk management, and contribute and lead regulatory compliance efforts where appropriate (ISO, medical device readiness).
- Advise on clinical safety and quality during all stages of product design and deployment.
- Implement comprehensive clinical analytics and monitoring systems to track clinical outcomes.
- Be responsible and accountable for signing off all product features / functions / clinical logic / clinical scope clinical secondary tools - applications integrated into the product offering prior to production release.
- Be responsible for and over see all post- implementation root cause analysis clinical product / logic review.
Clinical research and validation
- Deliver world-class clinical validation that demonstrates real clinical impact and integrates seamlessly into ThinkMD's internal and external ecosystem, leveraging cutting-edge research and clinical design.
- Establish reporting frameworks for clinical health and economic impact, including clinical efficacy, research publication metrics, and health impact outcomes.
- Establish clinical partnerships and research collaborations.
2. AI enablement
- Drive the design, configuration, and deployment of AI models used across ThinkMD’s products and provide direction for AI-driven clinical decision support models and triage frameworks, lead prompt engineering, model selection, and fine-tuning for both clinician- and patient-facing tools.
- Establish internal AI evaluation systems where appropriate, including regression testing, hallucination detection, and clinical accuracy monitoring.
- Collaborate with engineers to design scalable workflows that integrate LLMs and AI agents safely into production systems.
- Develop transparent model documentation and evaluation metrics to support accountability and trust among partners, regulators, and users.
- Identify opportunities to extend AI capabilities across the broader business – including operations, sales, customer success, and internal knowledge management.
- Mentor & educate cross-functional teams on AI literacy and safe application of generative models in healthcare.
- Oversee the development of ML models to improve sensitivity and specificity of clinical logic risk assessments.
3. Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to align on product vision, AI strategy, and roadmap across near-, mid-, and long-term horizons and foster a culture of clinical innovation and evidence-based approach.
- Build clinical cases that balance patient needs, scientific validity, and strategic importance for ThinkMD.
- Collaborate with product team members to ensure all clinical features meet medical best practices and regulatory compliance.
- Lead clinical data initiatives and leverage insights for clinical optimisation and generate insights for healthcare decision-makers.
- Collaborate with commercial teams on clinical value propositions, evidence generation, and clinical validation approaches.
- Be the key interface point with the ThinkMD Clinical and Scientific Governance Board.
4. Clinical Development and Innovation
- Responsible for clinical development processes from research design through validation and publication.
- Embrace AI/ML capabilities into all aspects of clinical research and validation.
- Ensure clinical safety and efficacy is maintained including quality, compliance, and healthcare regulations.
- Drive experimentation with all aspects of clinical development and innovation including internal and external healthcare stakeholders.
- Establish clinical partnerships and research collaborations.

Education & experience:
Educational background:
- Required: Medical degree (MD, DO, MBBS)
- Healthcare, global health, or digital health background essential.
- Additional advanced degree is highly desirable; PhD in relevant scientific field (data science; computer science, epidemiology, public health, global health, biomedical sciences, or related discipline); public health (MPH, DrPH) or global health preferred.
Professional experience:
- 8+ years experience in clinical practice and clinical research
- Additional experience in medical leadership and/or executive roles in digital health.
- Experience working with C-level executives, board members, and clinical advisory boards.
- Background in high-growth health-tech companies, digital health organisations, or healthcare innovation preferred.
- A dual clinical/technical background is highly advantageous.
- Direct, hands-on experience in designing, configuring, and deploying AI/ML models specifically within a clinical or digital health product context critical.
- Experience in global health initiatives or emerging markets strongly preferred.
- Academic medicine, clinical research organisation, or pharmaceutical industry background valuable.
- Experience as principal investigator on clinical research studies valuable.
- Proven track record in establishing and maintaining strong clinical governance, safety case documentation, and leading clinical regulatory compliance efforts.
Technical skills:
- Exceptional clinical judgment and evidence-based medicine capabilities.
- Experienced clinical researcher with excellent study design and protocol development skills.
- Deep expertise in prompt engineering, model selection, and fine-tuning and designing scalable workflows that integrate LLMs and AI agents safely into production systems.
- Experience collaborating closely with data science and engineering teams to translate clinical needs into technical requirements.
- Experience with clinical research tools, electronic health records, and healthcare analytics platforms.
- Understanding of clinical governance, QMS, medical affairs, clinical trial design, regulatory pathways (FDA, EMA), and medical device regulations.
- Proficiency in clinical data analysis, biostatistics, and research methodology.
